5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 6

Teen Tech Tutoring, opening and closing, and beading.

1. Paraphrasing Jane Austen: It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a person of a certain age in possession of the latest electronics must be in want of assistance. And during the month of July Belmont High Schools students will work one-on-one with library patrons on a specific range of computer topics including Facebook, email, ebook support and general computer help.

Teen Tech Tutor sessions are available Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., from July 9 to Aug 1. Sign-up is required, and space is limited.  Register online from the Library's events calendar, or call the reference desk at 617-993-2870.

2. Just a reminder: during July and August the library is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and closed on Sundays.

3.Remember: Belmont town offices and departments will be closing their doors at 1 p.m. on Fridays over the summer.

4. Life's A Bead at 404 Trapelo Rd. offers a great opportunity for anyone who's interested in getting started in beading. At 11:30 a.m., the store is offering a free beginner beader class. Learn the difference between different beads, stringing materials, findings, etc. And of course, learn how to crimp.

5.On this day in 1942, Anne Frank and her family go into hiding in a "secret annexe" above her father's office in an Amsterdam warehouse.
