Banged Up Belmont Gridiron Gang Bitten Again By Injury Bug
Marauders loses game to Bedford and three starters to injury.
With a sophomore first-year starter at quarterback, there isn't much more important to a football team's success than the offensive line. So, well there never is a good time for an injury, there couldn't be any worse time for Belmont to see not one, but two starting lineman go down to injury, but that's exactly what happened to the Marauders last Thursday at Bedford.
Add in losing wide receiver Mark Rocha to a collarbone injury and the 34-0 shutout loss doesn't seem quite as important.
Belmont turned the ball over on each of its first two possessions and Bedford took full advantage, scoring a pair of touchdowns to take a 12-0 lead after one quarter.
Bedford's special teams scored the squad's next touchdown, returning a blocked punt for a score early in the second quarter. Bedford added a safety, a passing touchdown and a two-point conversion to build a 28-0 halftime lead then added a second half touchdown to finish the scoring.
The Belmont boys' soccer squad started the season with a loss to Melrose but bounced back to record back-to-back wins over Woburn and Wakefield last week. Edgar Damatian and Bobby Abdolmohammadi each scored in the Marauders win over Wakefield in their home opener.
The Belmont girls' soccer squad was knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten Monday night at Winchester.
The Marauders put 15 shots on goal in the loss, but only one in, while Winchester was held to just three shots, but two of them found the back of the net.
