Dems Coming Out to Caucus Sunday
Voting to select delegates to state convention at 1 p.m. Sunday in Town Hall.
The annual Democratic Party caucus for Belmont will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, in the Belmont Town Hall Auditorium, 455 Concord Ave. in Belmont, to select delegates and alternates to the Democratic State Convention. The convention will be held at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield on June 2.
“Belmont Democrats came out in droves to help with Will Brownsberger’s campaign for State Senator. We’re hoping that the excitement generated in that race will result in great attendance at Sunday’s caucus ” said Trish Lohmar, a member of the Belmont Democratic Town Committee.
Sixteen delegates and at least two alternates will be elected. Other business of the Town Democratic Committee will be conducted after the caucus.
This caucus is open to the public but only Belmont residents who were Democratic Party members as of Dec. 31, 2011 may register. Only registrants are eligible to vote and/or be elected as delegates or alternates.
Registration will open at 12:45 p.m. and, according to State Committee rules, will close at 1:15 p.m. Those arriving after the close of registration are not eligible to participate.
“Besides being able to voice your support for your favorite candidates, attending the State Convention allows you to participate in the formation of the policies and platforms of the Democratic Party. We encourage people to get involved with the Party at any level. 'Get in the game or don’t complain' – that’s my motto,” said Lohmar.
