The high standard of Belmont music education hit another high note earlier this month when on Nov. 17, 110 Belmont High School students joined more than a 1,000 students from across the state in North Andover at the Massachusetts Music Educators Association auditions for the Northeast District band, chorus and orchestra.
Of the Belmont students who auditioned, a staggering 59 musicians were accepted into the Northeast ensembles. In addition, nearly half, 25, received All-State recommendations, qualifying them to audition for the 2013 All-State ensembles in December.
"The accomplishment of each individual student – including those who prepared and auditioned, but were not accepted this year – is a result of their hard work and the support of their parents and teachers," said Arto Asadoorian, director of Fine and Performing Arts for the Belmont public schools.
"The fact that so many students in our district are achieving at such a high level in music is a tribute to the quality of K-12 music education provided in Belmont, and the level of support for arts education in our community," said Asadoorian.
The following Belmont High students were accepted to this year’s MMEA Northeast District Festival. Those students with a * indicates an All-State recommendation.

Two quick notes of addendum based on information we just received:
Two additional students, Henry Smith and Riley Grant, were awarded All-State Recommendations on trumpet.
Three BHS students were selected to the All-Eastern Festival, which will take place in Hartford, CT. They are Enchi Chang (violin), Leah Meyer (French horn) and Julia Regier (chorus).
Again, this just serves to illustrate the results of a community placing such a high value on arts education in our schools.
