Belmont Police Arrest Gas Attendant for Credit Card Fraud

Police ask customers of Shell station at 337 Pleasant St. to closely check their credit card records.

The Secret Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have joined Belmont Police Department detectives investigating a man arrested Friday, July 29, for allegedly using personal information from credit card used at a local gas station to commit fraud.

Sam Magzanyan, 33, of 257 Brown St. Waltham, was placed under arrest and charged with credit card fraud, larceny over $250, possession of a counterfeit press credit card and identify fraud.

On Friday night, an alert Belmont Police officer on patrol observed Magzanyan working at the Shell gas station at 337 Pleasant St. The officer believed Magzanyan looked like an individual recently caught on surveillance video using stolen credit card information at a local department store.

Over the course of the evening, the officer spoke to Magzanyan and, with assistance, kept him under surveillance. After observing him hide an object in a work bay, officers again confronted Magzanyan and questioned him.

At the conclusion of the interview, they arrested Magzanyan. Among the items recovered from the work bay was a credit card reader.

At this time, there appears to be five individuals whose credit card information was obtained at the gas station without their permission.

Belmont Police is asking anyone who used a credit card at the Shell station at 337 Pleasant St. to closely check their statements for the past month and call the Belmont Police at 617-993-2501 if they notice any questionable charges.
