BHS Running Alumni Help Their Colleges Advance
Chris Stadler and Andrew Carey, 2010 Belmont High grads, are moving on to the regional championships.
You can never tell when you might bump into an old high school classmate: Maybe in the town center, while shopping at the mall or at the old school.
For Andrew Carey and Chris Stadler, 2010 Belmont High School graduates, it was standing in a open field outside Harrisburg, Penn. during Saturday's snow storm.
While wearing shorts with the temperature hovering near freezing.
Happily the reason the pair were undressed in the pasture was because they were participating in the Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships. The 10 team NCAA Division 3 league consists of squads including those from John Hopkins University (Carey) and Haverford College (Stadler) for which the BHS alumni compete.
In the men's race, Stadler, who is running in his second year for the Scarlet and Black, finished 11th overall of the 105 varsity runners and was named to the All Conference Team.
Haverford, which is currently ranked second nationally in Division 3 and was the defending NCAA Division 3 national champions, won the league championship over second place Dickinson College, currently ranked fourth nationally.
Carey finished in 47th in his best performance of the year in his first season running for the Blue Jays, ranked 23rd nationally, after transferring from George Washington.
Both teams – and Stadler and Carey – now advance to the NCAA Mideast regionals on Nov. 12.
