Dean Street Resident to Help Introduce Romney to RNC, Nation

Hear the WBUR interview of Grant Bennett and other Belmont residents describing their long-time friend and fellow church member, Mitt Romney.

Grant Bennett and his wife initially encountered Mitt and Ann Romney in 1978 after the Bennett moved to Boston so Grant could attend graduate school.

"We met them our first Sunday at church and we’ve been friends ever since. We have served together in various capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," said Bennett in an interview today, Aug. 30, with Bob Oakes on WBUR's Morning Edition.

You can listen to the interview on WBUR's website.

Soon afterward, the Bennett's moved to Belmont and "have simply been friends" with the Romney's for those nearly 35 years.

And tonight, the Dean Street resident has been given the honor to help introduce his longtime friend to a national audience and the convention, speaking specifically about serving together in the church located on Belmont Hill.

"In the context of Mitt’s service in the church, he has done enormous good for many, many, many people. In many cases, people came to him in confidence and asked for help and guidance and counsel. I think that much of the good that Mitt has done won’t be told publicly because he’s certainly not going to break any of those confidences," said Bennett.
