Five Things to Do This Weekend: A Titanic Requiem Concert

Belmont's connection to the Titanic, high school musicians in Boston, gospel in Watertown.

What: Dennis Ahern, past vice-president of the Arlington Historical Society, will address the Belmont Historical Society. He will tell how Caroline Lamson Brown of Belmont came to be the last person to step off the deck of the Titanic into a lifeboat. Another Belmont passenger, Mr. Henry Hart, was not so fortunate.

What: Join the at this community open sing performance of Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass." Artistic Director Mary Beekman – also director of Musica Sacra – leads singers and a professional-level orchestra in this fun event. Vocal scores are provided. No registration required. No singing experience necessary. First-timers are always welcome!

When/Where: 2 p.m., Sunday, March 25, , 365 Belmont St.

3. Joyful Voices of Inspiration Concert

What: Joyful Voices of Inspiration will hold a gospel concert at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Watertown. Joyful Voices is a non-denominational community of singers with diverse membership, who share the joy, power and message of gospel music.  Proceeds from the concert will go to support the endeavors of the Belmont as well as the Watertown and St. Patrick’s food pantries. For more information contact Laurie Graham, 617-489-6483 or iamlaurieg@yahoo.com

When/Where: 3 p.m., Sunday, March 25, St. John’s United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown.

Cost: $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and children under 12 are free. 

4. Brahms' 'German Requiem,' the Boston Youth Symphony with Back Bay Chorale and Grammy winning soprano, Ana María Martínez and baritone, Weston Hurt. 

What: Federico Cortese will conduct the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras – with nine Belmont High School performers – in Brahms’ choral masterpiece 'Ein deutsches Requiem,' Op. 45, (A German Requiem) with the Back Bay Chorale, soprano Ana María Martínez and baritone Westin Hurt.

When/Where: 3 p.m., Sunday, March 25, 2012, Symphony Hall, Boston.

Cost: $25 and $30; students and seniors receive a $5 discount.

5.

What: Join the LL Bean Burlington Outing Club for a guided hike at Belmont's Rock Meadows. Come explore the trails and see the beautiful views. Ages 8 and up. Well-behaved dogs on leash allowed. For details, call the Burlington retail store,
