Former Belmont State Trooper Indicted Wednesday
Could face up to 20 years on each of two criminal counts.
Belmont resident and former Massachusetts State Trooper John Analetto was formally indicted on two criminal counts of extortion by a grand jury in US District Court in Boston Wednesday.
Analetto was arrested Dec. 31 by a State Police SWAT team just off Trapelo Road after a long-time bookie – known in court documents as "John Doe A" – asked the FBI for help after Analetto began treatening to kill the gambler and sought to muscle in on his large number of East Coast clients.
Assistant US Attorney Eugenia Carris said that Analetto extorted the bookie "to collect and attempt to collect an extension on credit" in violation of federal law.
Carris said Analetto also used "extortionale means" to collect the money.
Both charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine or both if Analetto is convicted.
In addition, if convicted on one or more of the offenses, Analetto will lose any funds or property that can be traced back to the extortion.

What goes around, comes around. Hope he enjoys his time behind bars. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, he's been a bully all his life. Went to high school with him.

This is a very sad story. I think everyone needs to realize that John's family can see comments that people make on FB , Belmont Patch and Wicked local. I'm sure this is a very hard time for them. The comments that some people make can be very hurtful to family members as well as the person people comment about.

Maybe he should have thought of his family before getting involved with this while taking an oath to the state.
