Less than ten hours after coming home from the Belmont High School Prom, seniors Juliet Barker and Choa Kim were on the tennis court in Lexington Saturday, May 20, to battle against an undefeated team in the quarterfinals of the North Division of the MIAA state tournament.
Belmont girls lost a hard fought, heartbreaker, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to Newton South's undefeated pair of Lauren Bamel and Mei Kasif who advanced to Sunday's North finals where they were finally defeated.
Barker and Kim fought their way back after trailing, playing very strong tennis, losing by the barest of margins.
The Barker/Kim pairing, with a 12-2 record, was one of 60 doubles teams that started the individual playoffs which was widdled down to eight doubles teams on Saturday. They have gone farther then any singles or doubles team from Belmont in the individual tourament.
There are a handful of games remaining league play as well as the MIAA team tournament.
