Letter To The Editor: Bass Adds Endorsement for Rogers

Long-time resident backing Cambridge candidate.

To the Editor:

I write to ask Belmontians to support Dave Rogers for state representative in the Sept. 6Democratic primary (a Thursday, don't forget) and in the general election, as Henry and I have decided to do. We are fortunate to have many able people running.

The four talented and hard-working candidates from Belmont – Democrats Margaret Hegarty and Bobby Reardon, Republican Tomi Olson, and independent Jim Gammill – are all fine people.

However, Will Brownsberger’s election to the state Senate leaves big shoes to fill in the House of Representatives. In looking for someone concerned for the environment and sophisticated about getting things done on Beacon Hill, we have decided to support the non-Belmont candidate (from nearby North Cambridge.)

Dave’s top four issues on his web site are education, the environment, health care, and transportation. I don’t agree with every syllable of his positions (found at http://rogers4rep.com/issues/) but the positions are serious and thoughtful. We were also impressed at hearing him debate. On the toughest issues, where he’ll have to balance conflicting values, he seems likely to come up with creative solutions.

These are hard times. I believe Dave Rogers can help solve the enormous challenges facing the Commonwealth.
