Two more freshmen records fell and several swimmers have qualified to swim in the state meet when Belmont battled Winchester in the Wenner Field House pool on Friday afternoon, Jan 4.
Ninth-grader Andrew Kelley broke another individual swimming mark as he swam the 50 yard freestyle in 24.19 seconds, a five hundredth of a second faster then the previous record as he finished first in the meet with the Sachems.
Kelley also joined fellow frosh Langston Chen, Jack Stewart and Anthony Rodriquez to break the freshman record in the 200 yard medley relay in 2:02.49, swimming exactly one second quicker than the previous time.
Finally, Kelley qualified for the state meet hitting the qualifying time in the 500 yard free. Also dipping below the state qualifying mark was senior Ben Johnson in the 100 yard butterfly going under a minute (56.85 seconds) and the 200 yard medley relay – comprised of juniors Andrew Walsh, Seven Lessin and Kevin Chen and Johnson – finishing in second with a time of 1:52 flat.
Senior Joey Tocci scored 6's and 7's in his final and most difficult dive to earn maximum points, sophomore (one of a dozen on the team) Thomas Zembowicz scored 10 points by winning the 100 yard backstroke in 1:03.04.
