Mulch Fire at Country Club Doused, Golf Continues

Entire Fire Department responds to fire and smoke at Belmont Country Club during golf tournament.

The Belmont Fire Department has had a manic Monday battling two fires in the matter hours on July 26.

The second at 11:30 a.m. saw the entire department rush to an outside fire at Belmont Country Club that threatened to be a serious blaze due to numerous renovations to the BCC's main building.

Units from neighboring towns assisted Belmont with mutual aid in staffing the town's stations.

Assistant Fire Chief Angus Davison said a mulch fire smoldering near the main building was producing smoke that was brought into the building through the negative pressure of the vent system.

While the fire remained outside, Davison said it could have been a more serious fire if it had entered the building which has a number of false walls due to years of renovations. Units were at the scene for 45 minutes carefully investigating numerous crawl spaces for possible smoldering fires.
