Taken for a ride
July 6 – At 4:14 p.m., a Canning Road resident called officers to say someone had taken her key ring with her house keys on them. She has no idea who would have taken it.
No bottle return
July 8 – Just before 1:30 a.m., police were notified that two groups of young men – two in one and four in the other – were facing off at Beech and Waverley streets with the probability that they would be coming to blows. It came to light that one of the young men – Johald Paul, 19, of 1 Weber Rd. in Belmont – felt that another gentleman who attended the same party in Waltham had been rude so Paul hit him across the face with a bottle before leaving. The four men who were friends of the injured party had caught up with Paul and his friend in Belmont. Police separated the six and called Waltham PD concerning the incident in their city. Sure enough, the Waltham cops said, they were conducting their own investigation and asked Belmont Police to arrest Paul. He was taken away first to Belmont and then Waltham where he was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a bottle.
Scooted off
July 8 – A young man had parked his scooter on Holt Street near Cutter where a friend lives. But when he was ready to go home around 2 a.m., the yellow Shenke scooter was missing.
Beep leads to bleep
July 8 – Just before 1:30 p.m., a Belmont woman was leaving Shaw's heading towards Cushing Square when a green and white metallic Honda SUV nearly slammed into her car. She hit her horn as a way of catching his attention to drive more defensively. The horn blast got his attention alright. A man – in his 40s with salt-and-pepper hair wearing a polo shirt and khaki pants – stopped his vehicle near the Wheelworks shop, got out and confronted the woman, yelling and using profanity at her. It turned out he was upset because he had children in the SUV. He then spit on her before driving off at a high rate of speed with the children in the back. Belmont Police would like the public help finding the man. The license plate of the SUV has a "9V" in its sequence.
