Suspect: Jean Val Jean

May 18 – It sounds like the plot of 'Les Mesribles': when employees arrived to open the doors to Vickie Lee on Trapelo Road, a expected supply of bread was not there. This is not the first time that someone has stolen the $50 package of bread that is delivered before 5 a.m. to the bakery/coffee shop.

May 20 – It was a few minutes before 4 a.m. when a Belmont Police officer on patrol discovered a young man sitting on the curb at the corner of Oakley and Belmont. The 20-year-old Watertown, who appeared intoxicated, was sitting next to "a pool of vomit," according to the officers. According to the young man, he was attempting to skateboard home from a party when he began feeling "sick." Because the young man was "unsteady" on his feet and since it was thought best that he should not be skateboarding under the influence, the officer placed him under protective custody.

In custody

May 21 – Belmont Police officers were sent to a Newton Street address to place into custody Michael Irish, 47, of 32 Newton St. for outstanding warrants for violating an abuse prevention order and witness intimidation.

And no pirates allowed either

May 23 – Police were called to PQ Park off Trapelo Road just after 11 a.m. concerning a man apparently "digging" in the field. It turns out the man was using a metal detector to find all the loose change that has fallen out of parent's pockets during all those youth baseball and soccer games. Police then told the man that he could not use his treasure finder on town property. Did not know there is a bylaw preventing this activity.

Fragrance felon strikes again

May 23 – He's back! In March, Macy's personnel described where a large fashionable dressed man targeted the store's men's fragrance department to steal pricey gift sets. Whether it was because he had finished the earlier pilfered toilet water or why stop doing what's successful, the man returned to Macy's on May 22 and 23 with an eye on taking more costly colognes. Once again, he quickly came in from the Leonard Street entrance, strolled to the nearby men's fragrances section, takes a few gift sets then out the doors to a waiting vehicle. He took $276 and $234 worth of goods on consecutive days. Store employees said the man is large – try 350 pounds – about 6'2" tall, wearing a nice black leather coat. Witnesses said he got into the back seat of a vehicle driven by a "heavy-set" woman. Detectives are sniffing around for clues.
