Hundreds of students from Wellington, Butler and Burbank elementary schools will be putting on their walking shoes and – with a 50 percent chance of rain – their raincoats and carry their umbrellas as they stride to school tomorrow morning, Wednesday, Oct. 3, as Belmont helps celebrate International Walk to School Day.
Students will join with parents, teachers, community leaders – Selectman Andy Rojas at the Wellington and Dan Scharfman at the Burbank – and celebrity walkers including Mr. “S”, retired Wellington PE teacher Richard Samaria, as Belmont joins more than 110 communities in Massachusetts and 6,000 worldwide to promote a healthy way to get to school and start the day.
In coordination with Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program, the event will begin at 8 a.m. with kids, parents and adults meeting on street corners throughout Belmont and walking to school.
Walkers will arrive at the school between 8:20 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for a meet-and-greet and special prizes.
Here are the times and locations for those in the Butler community who wish to join a teacher-led walking group:
• The Dunkin' Donuts at Trapelo and Beech streets, 8:20 a.m.
• Scali Dental at Trapelo and Hawthorne, 8:20 a.m.
• Dunkin Donuts at Church and Lexington, 8:20 a.m.
• PQ Park at Maple and Chestnut, 8:20 a.m.
And don't forget to get a ‘Walk to School’ sticker from Principal Mike McAllister on the playground.

• School and Goden streets, 8:20 a.m.

Franklin, what about the Butler School and its participating students? Did you ask the Butler staff or is it more a matter of them reaching out to you to be included in the story?

I am working with the PTA's and didn't get any info from the Butler. Do you know of its walk schedule - I'd love to put it in also!
