The Boston Globe is reporting that Brigham’s Ice Cream on Trapelo Rd. has seen its lease expire and will be closing this week.
The establishment is co-owned by John Mercer and Steven Kupelnick. Mercer told the Globe that business is sluggish and that they were unsuccessful in attempts to sell the business.
According to the Globe, the Belmont location originally opened in 1932 and survived a wave of closings brought about following the sale of Brigham’s to Deal Metrics LLC in 2008. Between 10 and 12 employees will be unemployed after the Belmont closure, the article reports.
The Arlington Heights Brigham’s, also owned by Kupelnick and Mercer, will remain open, the Globe reports.
Stay tuned to Belmont Patch for more information.

Sad! This feels really like a huge loss - especially for those of us who live nearby to Brighams. When my kids were small, Brighams was the one place I knew I could take them for a yummy grill cheese and ice cream. Thank you, Steve and John, we will miss you lots and will come visit in Arlington!

They had the best mac & cheese! And right around the corner from us... big loss for that side of town! That was our family place. Thanks for the great times, Brigham's (i.e. Steve & John).

Brigham's was always a staple as a child growing up around the corner. I was just there the other week and I can't express how it makes me to have it close. Thanks for the memories!

We have lived in Watertown for almost 20 years and were shocked to see the wonderful Brighams Ice Cream Shop on Trapelo Road close. It is the passing of an era. No one made ice cream sodas like these guys! And I will miss those wonderful tuna salad sandwiches on dark rye....
As for tart frozen yogurt as a replacement, all I have to say is ewuuuu! NO THANKS!
As for replacing Brigham's, you can take your frozen yougurt
