Second Belmont Water Give Away Almost Certain

When and where remains up-in-the-air

While it is all but certain Belmont will conduct a second free water give away as early as Tuesday, May 4, yet the time or location where the water will be distributed remains unknown, according to town officials.

The second round of free water to residents comes at least two days since the first when residents rushed to Belmont High School where two dozen members of the Citizen Emergency Response Team directed traffic, checked IDs and placed cases of water into cars and the hands of walkers.

While the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is ahead of the initial timetables suggesting a week or two before the 30 communities affected by the emergency could use tap water without it being boiled, a time certain for the resumption of normal water service is driving Belmont's decision.

As with the initial give away, officials will place a notice on the town's website and using the phone through the Connect CTY reverse calling system to inform residents when and where they can travel to pick up their water.

One place residents should not be going is Belmont High School, the site of the first distribution.

Thomas Younger, Town Administrator, said this past Sunday that the High School would be out-of-the-mix due to the distribution being held on a school week.

Younger said another location including a town-owned location or a privately owned site would be considered.
