Special Education Program Seeks Business Support

Collaborative looking to replicate successful Lexington program in Belmont.

A successful recycling program that has helped special education program in Lexington is seeking to expand into Belmont.

The LABBB Collaborative is a special education program serving Lexington, Arlington, Burlington, Bedford and Belmont. Currently, LABBB provides educational programming and support services for more than 350 special needs students from over 60 districts. The LABBB Collaborative Programs are all located in public school buildings.

Two years ago, the program started a recycling program to Lexington town offices and businesses that is well received.

This program allows LABBB students to twice a week pick up recycling products from local businesses and send the items to Loveland, Colo., to a recycling plant.

In return, the collaborative is reimbursed a small fee for the amount of recycled items sent to them. Recycling items that the LABBB accepts include:

  • Laser jet cartridges
  • Digital cameras
  • Used video games
  • Used DVD's
  • PDA's & IPODS
  • Laptops

The recycling effort is currently looking to expand this service to Belmont. LABBB Collaborative hopes that businesses will consider allowing the students the opportunity to provide this free service to their business.
