The Magic Of Friday Family Films

Belmont World Films decade-long series begins tonight at MFA, Boston

The magic of an opening night will be just that as Belmont World Film's celebrates its 10th Annual Family Film Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston with the first of two "Magic Fridays" during the festival.

The festival begins with the magic of The Magic Piano, The Chopin Shorts, and a live performance by Leonard Solomon and His Bellowphone tonight at 7 p.m. This group of wordless animated short films, all created by Academy Award-winning Breakthru Films (Peter and the Wolf), are connected by a soundtrack featuring Chopin's magical Etudes performed by celebrated Chinese pianist Lang Lang.

A second showing of tonight's program will be held next Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Studio Cinema in Belmont.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 10, will be a full day of films at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston starting at 10:30 a.m. with Eric Carle Picture Writer: The Art of the Picture Book plus short films from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories compilation.

At noon will be the US premiere of Fidgety Bram, a charming film from The Netherlands that combines live action with animation followed at 1:30 p.m. by Canadian/Quebec Shorts I: Around the World, featuring some of the best animated films from the National Film Board of Canada, including several US premieres. The day concludes with The Blue Tiger, a film from the Czech Republic that features live action combined with whimsical animation preceded by the short The Happy Duckling, a remarkable animated film set in a pop-up book world.

Next weekend the festival moves to the Studio Cinema in Belmont.
