The Week in Review: Tunnel Flooding, Contract Signed
Events that occurred in the past week in Belmont.
The town and the union representing the town's clerical workers reached an agreement on a three-year contract that will provide the nearly 40 workers with annual pay raises of 1 percent, 1 1/2 percent and 2 percent. It was the first of seven contracts that will be negoiated in the coming year.
Belmont was hit by several severe thunderstorms on Wednesday. And while the town missed being struck by the violent microburst that occurred in Arlington, the rainfall did cause the tunnel into Belmont Center to flood for nearly a half an hour.
The neighborhood association that surrounds the proposed Cushing Village development said that large buildings are a detriment to the town's character.
State Sen. Will Brownsberger said that the Three Strikes Bill 'leaves much to be done' and voted against the popular measure.
The Massachusetts Treasurer has placed $10 million in state deposits in Belmont Savings Bank to spur small business lending.
