VIDEO: Belmont Bike Thief Caught on Surveillance Camera

Image of man who stole mountain bike and then returned to buy a lock broadcasted on Boston television news.

The one thing the man who stole a mountain bike from a Waverley Square bike store wanted was his photo to be broadcasted on television across greater Boston.

And his taking the $639 bike on Monday afternoon, July 30, possibly would have been ignored if it hadn't been for the audacity of returning less than an hour later to Wheelworks on Trapelo Road looking for a lock to secure his ill-gotten gain.

Thursday night, Channel 7, WHDH-TV, and WBZ Boston ran stories of the brazen thief including surveillance video of the man coming back to the store.

"Is he daring or just plain dumb," asked Jack Williams, WBZ's long-time news anchor.

The video is also online and has on the website of a Tampa, Florida television station.

If you may know the person in the video, give Belmont Police a call at 617-993-2505. The man faces larceny charges.
