Belmont's Elizabeth Mahoney is reporting from the Republican National Convention as the delegate from Mitt Romney's hometown.
  What a great night of speeches we had last night.  Speakers included Sen. John McCain, Mike Huckabee, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and of course, Paul Ryan, our nominee for vice president. Ayla Brown, daughter of current Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, sang the national anthem. I think expectations were pretty high for Ryan's speech, but in my opinion he exceeded them. Tuesday night was amazing; the crowd loved Ann Romney. She talks about Mitt the man, husband and father so eloquently and with such passion. There was definitely a feeling on the floor of "what a fantastic First Lady she would be!" It was especially poignant when she talked about the struggles she and Mitt have endured, including her MS and her battle with cancer. Yesterday morning began with our Massachusetts delegation breakfast. Speakers this morning were former Missouri Senator Jim Talent, former Gov. Bill Weld and Massachusetts House of Representative Minority Leader Brad Jones. Talent and Weld spoke in particular about President Obama's record on jobs creation and contrasted it with Mitt Romney's own record, both in the private sector and as governor of Massachusetts.   In the afternoon it was off to the convention hall for our first real day of business. Greetings from Tampa where there is actually blue sky to be seen! It is mostly overcast, but it is not raining and so far no high winds.  I arrived safely yesterday Sunday and made my way to the Massachusetts delegation's hotel; we are within the "security perimeter" and near the convention center. We had to go through several security checkpoints to get to the hotel. Secret Service, National Guard and local police are all patrolling the secure zone. And the Coast Guard has the water covered.
