Marjorie Kelly, economic visionary and author will share her thoughts about wealth and income inequality and its societal consequences on Monday, June 25, at 7:30 at the First Church in Belmont, Unitarian Universalist.  The event is free and open to the public and is hosted by Occupy Belmont and the Social Action Committee.

There is a widespread sense among Americans that much of the deep-seated unfairness in our society has its roots in wealth inequity and that moneyed interests have undue political influence. These inequities erode the confidence we have in our democracy.

But realistically, what can be done about it?

“As long as businesses are set up to focus exclusively on maximizing financial income for the few, our economy will be locked into endless growth and widening inequality. But now people are experimenting with new forms of ownership aimed at creating the conditions for life for many generations to come. These designs may offer the transformation our civilization needs.”

Kelly points to examples from all over the world where a hopeful new economy is being built.

Marjorie Kelly is a fellow at Tellus Institute, a Boston think tank, and director of ownership strategy with Cutting Edge Capital consulting group. She is the author of The Divine Right of Capital and is co-founder and president of Business Ethics magazine. www.MarjorieKelly.com
