Community Preservation Presentations, Speeding Cars on Newly-Paved Streets, 'Verdi Duecento'

Events happening in Belmont on Thursday, Oct. 10.

1. The Community Preservation Committee will be holding a public meeting at 7 p.m. in the Belmont Gallery of Art on the third floor of the Homer Building (in the Town Hall complex) where those seeking to use part of the CPC's $2.6 million funding pool for 2014 projects will make presentations concerning their applications.

2. The Book Club for elementary school kids in grades 3 through 4 is meeting today from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Flett Room of the Belmont Public Library. All are invited to attend.

3. The Traffic Advisory Committee will be taking up a growing complaint in town: speeding cars on Goden Street and other newly-paved roads. At 7 p.m. in Town Hall Conference Room 2. 

4. Sports today: Golf at 3:30 p.m. vs. Woburn at Belmont Country Club, Girls' Volleyball in the Wenner Field House at 4 p.m. vs. Burlington and Girls' Soccer against Wakefield at 6 p.m. at Harris Field.

5. Buon Compleanno a Giuseppe! Today is the bicentennial (verdi duecento) of the birth of the great composer Giuseppe Verdi. Here is the "drinking song" from a great Salzburg production of "La Traviata" with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón.
