Hot Chocolate for Chenery Students, Benton Book Club and Boys' Hockey at the Skip

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

• This couldn't come at a better time. Chenery Middle School students can stop by the Belmont Public Library's Assembly Room from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the "Homework & Hot Chocolate" event for middleschoolers ONLY. Bring your homework and enjoy a cuppa hot chocolate on this early release Wednesday.

• The Benton Library Book Group will meet at 4 p.m. to discuss “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout. Newcomers are welcome even if they have not read the book. The book group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the library located at 75 Oakley Rd. at the corner of Oakley & Old Middlesex.

• The Beech Street Center, 266 Beech St., will be holding a Computer Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon. This workshop will help participants understand the basic ideas of word processing and demonstrate helpful techniques for typing, formatting, editing and printing documents. Easy-going individual tutoring sessions can follow if desired to provide hands-on practice that relates to the ideas presented in the workshop. A sign-up sheet will be available at the front desk. 

• The Community Path Advisory Committee – the folks that will propose a new bike/recreational path through Belmont – will be meeting at 7 p.m. in the Belmont Gallery of Art on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex. On the agenda is planning the Jan. 22 forum with abutters and finalizing the final report to be presented to the Belmont Board of Selectmen.

• The Belmont High School Boys' Ice Hockey team plays host to the always tough Woburn High (1-3-1) at the "Skip" (Viglirolo Skating Rink) on Concord Avenue at 5 p.m.
