Japanese Drumming at the Beech, Storytime Returns, A Talk on Wills and Trusts

Events occurring in Belmont on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

1. Taiko – Japanese drumming – comes to the Beech Street Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. Presented by Odaiko New England, this program both introduces the thunderous power of Taiko and invites you to try your hand at it.  Taiko drumming has a long history in Japan and is part of everyday Japanese life, including festivals, religious ceremonies and theater. Odaiko New England, formed in 1994, is a multi-cultural group of percussionists who share their art with audiences and students of all ages. This program is funded in part by the Massachusetts and Belmont Cultural Councils. And kids are invited! 

2. After going on summer vacation, the Belmont Public Library's Jane Gray Dustan Children's Room sees the return of Storytime for 2’s and 3’s. Due to overwhelming popularity of this event consisting of songs and movement, the program is offered both at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Bring your little ones for stories, songs, and more. Both programs will take place in the Flett Room, across from the Children's Room.

3. The Belmont Council on Aging presents attorney David Rosen as he returns to the Beech Street Center, 266 Beech St., at 1:15 p.m. with his new talk "Wills, Trusts and Nursing Home Asset Protection. Rosen will speak on:
• The advantages and disadvantages of Wills and Living Trusts,
• How to maintain your privacy and protect your estate if you become disabled,
• How to plan before you need long term care,
• How to leave property to your children and why putting property in their names may be a mistake,
• How to protect your children’s inheritance from their future exspouses, lawsuits, and other claims,
• How to preserve your estate for your kids if your surviving spouse gets remarried, • How Probate works and more importantly, how you can avoid Probate altogether, and
 • How you can qualify to use Medicaid to pay for nursing home expenses more than $10,900 monthly.

4. Today is Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month, on which Microsoft regularly releases security patches. SAP's"Security Patch Day", when the company advises users to install security updates, was chosen to coincide with Patch Tuesdays and Adobe Systems' updates schedule for Flash Player also coincides with Patch Tuesday since November of last year.

5. Happy Birthday, Rin Tin Tin, the remarkable German-American acting dog, who was born in 1918.
