Leonard Street Closed Again, Pool Committee to Pick Its Designer, Why Art Matters

Events occurring in Belmont on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

1. For a second day, Leonard Street leading into Belmont Center will be closed from Pleasant Street to Alexander Avenue for repaving work beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting until 5 p.m.

2. The Belmont Underwood Pool Building Committee will be reviewing and then selecting one of two firms to become the design team for the proposed new community pool at 7 p.m. in Conference Room 1 in Town Hall.

3. The Beech Street Center, 266 Beech St., is holding a talk from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. on why "Art Matters," a mini history of Western Civilization, from the caves to the Space Shuttle, showing just how art and civilization depend upon each other. Art transcends language, culture, time, and distance and connects us.

4. At 10:30 a.m., the Benton Library's Pre-school Story Time, a 45-minute program geared toward children between 3 and 5, will be featuring stories about the season. Parents and caregivers must remain with their preschooler during the program. Sign up is not required. 

5. The Belmont Public Library is hosting Stories for Children ages 4 and 5 followed by a simple craft beginning at 3:15 p.m. in the Flett Room across from the Children's Room.
