Pool Update, Bridge at the Beech, Sing-Along and Cross Sticks Tonight

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

1. Learn more about the possible new community pool as the Underwood Pool Buiding Committee will be meeting at 7 p.m. in Conference Room #4 of Belmont Town Hall.

2. Sing-along with Julie, a sing-along program for children, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Children's Room of the Belmont Public Library.

3. Duplicate Bridge Club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the at 266 Beech St. Every Wednesday the club holds American Contact Bridge League-sanctioned games. All are welcome to play. Cost is $5. Phone: 339-223-6484 for more information.

4. In sports today, Girls' Swimming will be in the Higginbottom Pool at the High School at 4 p.m. vs. Wakefield and Field Hockey will meet Arlington for the second time this season at 6 p.m.

5. On this day in 1846, the first demonstration of ether anesthesia was performed just down the road at the Massachusetts General Hospital in what was called the Ether Dome.
