Reading Alice Munro, Free Art Classes at the Beech, Game Day Fun

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

• They will be looking between the cushions and in the pockets of old coats during the first meeting of the Revenue Opportunities Subcommittee of the newly-created Financial Task Force which will meet at 5 p.m. in conference room 4 of Town Hall. 

Belmont Book Discussion reads Alice Munro this month. Participants are asked to select a favorite of Munro's collection of short stories or a single story to share with the group. Everyone is welcome to attend the discussion from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Flett Room of the Belmont Public Library.

• Catherine Tang, the talented Belmont High School senior, continues her popular free art classes at the Beech Street Center, 221 Beech St., held every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Here's a chance to try your hand at one or more of a variety of media. 

• It's Game Day at Paprika Kids, the children's store at 404 Trapelo Rd. Beginning at 10 a.m., game players will enjoy Press & Spin Bye-Bye Balloon, a sweet and  simple color-match game with a deck of adorably illustrated balloon cards. Recommended for kids up to 5 years old.

• On this day in 2001, Wikipedia, a free wiki encyclopedia, goes online for the first time.
