Road Paving in Waverley, Discussing Apps for Book Lovers, Girls' Soccer

Events happening in Belmont today, Wednesday, Oct. 23.

1. More paving around town. The town's road work subcontractor, The H. Perkins Construction, will be paving the following streets today between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. 
• Waverley Street (Trapelo Road to Harris Street)
• Sycamore Street (White Street to Trapelo Road)
• Springfield Street
 Park Road
The section of roadway being paved will be closed to all traffic during construction hours. The roadway will be passable after 9:00 p.m.

2. The Community Path Advisory Committee, the group appointed by the Belmont Board of Selectmen to review possible bike, pedestrian and recreational routes through town, will meet at 7 p.m. in the Belmont Art Gallery located on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex at 19 Moore St. On the agenda is a CPC request for funds to connect the Winn Brook neighborhood to the High School with a bike/walking tunnel and possible routes through town. 

4. The Belmont Public Library will be holding Session III of its Go Digital @ Your Library program with "Apps for Book Lovers." Start using some of the best applications for reading, rating and discovering literature.  Compatible with iPad, iPhone, Kindle Fire, Android phones, and laptops running IOS. No experience necessary. Please bring your portable device if you own one. Class is free but space is limited, so register at the reference desk or register online. 

4. The Belmont Council on Aging and the Beech Street Center are sponsoring a Belder Bus Trip to the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University with the bus leaving the Center at 11:30 a.m. and arriving back home at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free, but a donation is appreciated. In addition, the round-trip Belder Bus contribution of $4 is also appreciated. Several exhibits have recently opened at this small but prestigious museum including “Image Machine: Andy Warhol & Photography.” 

5. Get your raincoats and heavy-weather gear out to support the Belmont High School Girls' Soccer team as they take on Lexington High School at Harris Field beginning at 6 p.m. in their attempt to make the playoffs.
