Senior Book Group Discusses 'Mansfield Park', Special Storytime at the Benton

Events happening in Belmont on Friday, Jan. 10.

• The Belmont Board of Selectmen is meeting today at 8 a.m. at Town Hall and on the docket will be an update on the proposed 300-unit Belmont Uplands development. 

• The Senior Book Discussion Group will meet at 11 a.m. at the Beech Street Center (the Belmont senior center) to discuss "Mansfield Park" by Jane Austen.

• A Special Pre-School Storytime at the Benton Library, Belmont's independent and volunteer run library, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Denise Patnod will read stories and crafts for children age 3 to 5. Parents or caregivers must attend. Siblings may attend with adults. Registration is not required. The Benton Library is located at the intersection of Oakley and Old Middlesex.

Piano Lessons starts today at the Beech Street Center. The classes is run by Nina Grimaldi, is an expert at getting seniors to play piano and play it well. Nina – who graduated cum laude in Piano Performance from Amherst College (1983), and also holds a certificate from Longy School of Music in Dalcroze Eurythmics (1998) – has more than 30 years of teaching experience. The classes run from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $160 for 8 weeks; minimum of 4 students needed to hold class. If six students sign up, the cost will be $106.
