Spooky Story Time At the Benton, Boosting Memory, Designs for Flowers

Events occurring in Belmont on Friday, Oct. 25.

1. It will be a special pre-school story time today at the Benton Library at 10:30 a.m. as Denise Patnod leads everyone in a Halloween celebration. Come in your Halloween costume and listen to some spooky tales. Parents or caregivers must be present. Siblings are welcome with adults. Registration is not required. The Benton Library, Belmont's independent library, is located at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex. 

2. Road reconstruction work will be ongoing in the Waverley Square neighborhood near the Butler School. Some effected areas include Waverley Street (Trapelo Road to Harris Street), Sycamore Street (White Street to Trapelo Road), Springfield Street and Park Road. Be prepared for delays.

3. Boost Your Memory Power is a nine-week course meeting at 1:30 p.m. every Friday at the Beech Street Center, 266 Beech St., starting today. A first-time course about how to keep your memory sharp, it is designed for seniors with normal memory or for those who have minor memory loss. Funded by the Center's partner agency, Springwell, the course will be taught by experts in brain health including clinicians from McLean Hospital. Learn what diet (food samples and refreshments will be available), exercise, fun games and other techniques are helpful for actual memory improvement and confidence building. Registration limited to 16. A suggested donation of $10 for the course is requested, but no one will be turned down for inability to pay.

4. The Belmont Garden Club is holding its Floral Design Workshop at the Belmont Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library.

5. Speaking about the library, it's now open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. until the spring. They are also open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
