'Tall' Tales of Nepal at the Beech, Benton Story Time, Girls' Basketball at the Wenner

Events occurring in Belmont on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

• The Beech Street Center is holding an event dubbed "Stories from Nepal" at 1:15 p.m. with photos narrated by two residents of Belmont who are Nepalese, natives of the land of the Himalayan mountains including the tallest, Mt. Everest or Sagarmatha in Nepalese. There have been major political changes in this country of 27 million (and other two million others living abroad) - the country has gone from monarchy to several strands of communist coalition governments in only the last 10 years.

• Pre-school Story Time takes place at the Benton Library (at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex) beginning at 10:30 a.m. Today teddy bears are back. There will also be seasonal stories and crafts for children 3 to 5. Siblings may attend with adults. Parents or caregivers must be present. Registration is not required.

• A meeting of the Belmont Uplands Committee, which will discuss the impact on the environment of the proposed 300-unit residential project on the Cambridge line, will be held in the staff room of the Belmont Public Library beginning at 7 p.m.

• The Belmont Public Library's Children's Room is holding Storytime for 2’s and 3’s.  Due to overwhelming popularity, this storytime is offered both at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Bring your little ones for stories, songs, and more. Both programs will take place in the Flett Room, across from the Children's Room.

Belmont High School Girls' Basketball host Arlington in a varsity tussle in the Wenner Field House at 5:30 p.m.
