Boys' Soccer in Match of the Season, LEGO Club is Back, a Parenting Seminar

Events occurring in Belmont on Thursday, Oct. 3.

1. Follow the crowd to Harris Field this afternoon for the game of the season for Belmont High School Boys' Soccer as the undefeated (6-0-2) Marauders take on one loss (8-1-0) Wilmington High School at 6 p.m. The teams lead their respective divisions in the Middlesex League. The Boston Globe's high school soccer correspondent, Nick Ironside, is overtly enamored with the Wildcats, going so far as to dropping Belmont from the Globe's Top 20 boys soccer teams (the only undefeated team not in the rankings) and replaced them with Wilmington at No. 16. Ironside notes Wilmington has won eight straight (losing to Reading which Belmont defeated a fortnight past) and in six of those games, Wilmington has won by a margin of three or more goals. That's nice, Nick.

2. The Belmont Public Library's LEGO Club for children in kindergarten through the third grade will be held in the Library's Assembly Room from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Just drop in anytime. All LEGOs  will be provided.  Just bring your imagination!

3. Dr. Larry Cohen will be holding a parenting seminar at the Belmont Cooperative Nursery School from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the social hall of St. Joseph Parish, 130 Common St. Tickets are $10 per person and are available for purchase at the door.

4. Sewer draining and relining will take place on Cowdin Street and Audrey Road, so be prepared for some traffic slow downs.

5. On this day in 1995, at the end of a sensational 252-day trial, former football star O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the brutal 1994 double murder of his estranged wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. More than 140 million people heard the verdict on television or the radio.
