BELMONT STUDENT WINS STATEWIDE POETRY CONTEST

TALIN TAHAJIAN WINS HELEN CREELEY STUDENT POETRY PRIZE:

OPENS FOR MARY RUEFLE IN ACTON APRIL 16

Winner of the Helen Creeley Student Poetry Prize for the second year in a row, Talin Tahajian of Belmont High will open the 14th Annual Robert Creeley Award, the premier event of National Poetry Month, by reading from her prize-winning work.  Talin was selected from 44 entrants from 23 Massachusetts high schools based on their written work and two auditions.

Tahajian opens for major poet Mary Ruefle, the 14th Annual Robert Creeley Award winner on April 16, at 7:30 PM in the R.J. Grey Junior High auditorium, 16 Charter Road, Acton.

A senior at Belmont High, Talin’s poetry has been recognized by the Basil Bunting Poetry Awards, the British Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine, The Boston Globe, the National Young Arts Foundation, and the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

She’s had poems published or forthcoming in PANK, Word Riot, Washington Square Review, Hobart, and Out of Sequence: The Sonnets Remixed (Parlor Press, 2014).  She’s also a poetry editor for The Adroit Journal, and will attend the University of Cambridge in the fall to study English.
