5 Things: Bubble Man at the Library, Mysteries at the Benton

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, July 10.

1. Mike Dorval, The Bubble Man, will introduce chemistry through the wonders of bubbles in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library at 2 p.m. Looks like fun!

2. The Benton Library Book Group meets at 4 p.m. at Belmont's independent and volunteer-run library at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex to discuss the novels of Josephine Tey, a Scottish author best known for her mysteries. In 1990, Tey's "The Daughter of Time" was selected by the British-based Crime Writers' Association as the greatest mystery novel of all time. Newcomers are welcome even if they have not read the books. 617-484-0988.

3. Belmont High School Teen Techs are back to help patrons of the Belmont Public Library with e-readers, accessing the digital catalog, basic Internet help, how to make Facebook work better and other fun stuff. One hour individual one-on-one sessions are available from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration is required, and is available online or by calling 617-993-2870.

4. Free Teen Writing Workshop led by Kerri Majors, author of "This is Not a Writing Manual: Notes for the Young Writer in the Real World" begins tonight in the Young Adults section of the Belmont Public Library from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. These workshops, each focusing on a different topic, will discuss participants’ writing in a celebratory way, with an eye toward building on each writer’s individual strengths. This week's topic is "Think Like An Editor."

5. On this day in 1964 – a mere 49 years ago – the album "A Hard Day's Night" by the Beatles (one of the band's member, Paul McCartney, performed at Fenway Park last night) was released.
