5 Things: Irish Sing-Along at the Beech, Noon Movies For the Kids

Events occurring in Belmont today, Tuesday July 23.

1. The Beech Street Center is hosting a sing-along with Tommy Smith at 1:15 P.M. Tommy started performing Irish-American music with his father, playing bass guitar, tin whistle, and later, keyboard. As a soloist, he’s a popular performer with seniors with his wide range of musical styles.  He has a good sense of humor and engaging personality. Come welcome Tommy to the Center and enjoy singing and clapping along, and listening to his story-telling.

2. Noon Movies will be shown in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library including some wonderful films for children such as "Rosie's Walk," "Frog Goes to Dinner" and "The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle." 

3. It's Summer story time at the Benton Library at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex beginning at 10:30 a.m. Lenora Ellison will be telling stories for children 3 to 5. Parents or caregivers must attend. Siblings are welcome with adults. Registration is not required. 

4. The town will be performing sewer lining work on Hamilton Road. Be prepared for the roadway to be narrow in areas.

5. On this day a decade ago, the Massachusetts' attorney general issued a report saying clergy members and others in the Boston Archdiocese likely sexually abused more than 1,000 people over six decades.
