5 Things: Singing Trooper on the Beech, Pre-school Story Time, Noon Movies

Events happening in Belmont on Tuesday, July 16.

1. The Singing Trooper, Sgt. Daniel Clark makes a return appearance to the Beech Street Center at 1:15 p.m. A 20-year Massachusetts State Trooper, Clark now devotes his full time singing at events ranging from the Boston Pops, national TV shows, and for all Boston sports teams. There is a $5 suggested donation payable at the door.

2. At 10:30 a.m., Summer intern Lenora Ellison will be leading the Benton Library's Pre-school Story Time, a 45-minute program geared toward children between 3 and 5. It features a variety of stories, as well as music, finger plays and/or a craft. Parents and caregivers must remain with their preschooler during the program. Sign up is not required. 

3. On such as hot day, what better place to bring your youngest then Noon Movies at the Belmont Public Library? Join the staff in the Assembly Room for these wonderful movies for children: Leo the Late Bloomer, A Weekend with Wendell and Joey Runs Away. It's free.

4. Insituform Technologies will be performing sewer and street drain work along Trapelo Road. And there will be sewer lining work on Oxford Avenue. Be prepared for the roadway to be narrow in areas.

5. On this day in 1951, J.D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye" was published.
