5 Things: The Jamberries Are In Town, Recreation in Watertown

Events happening in Belmont on Thursday, July 18.

1. Ethan Rossiter and the Jamberries will be singing classic kids songs along with original tunes on topics ranging from rocket ships to underwear. The fun starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library.

2. Looking to make Belmont and its residents energy efficient towards a sustainable future? Then come by to the joint meeting of the Belmont Energy Committee and Sustainable Belmont being held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Belmont Public Library.

3. The Benton Library, Belmont's independent and volunteer run library at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex, is open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. It's air conditioned and has wifi so what else do you need?

4. Here's a historic recreation that's worth heading over to Watertown for: on this day in 1776, the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence – which reached Boston two weeks after it was signed – was held for the citizens of Watertown including residents of what is now Belmont. Come by the Edmund Fowle House at 28 Marshall St. in Watertown at 6:30 a.m. for a recreation of the great event. This program is free and open to the public. For further information and directions see www.HistoricalSocietyofWatertownMA.org or call Audrey Jones Childs at 617-926-2577.

5. Happy Birthday to two great people: Nelson Mandela turns 95 and John Glenn turns 92.
