A Window to Scary Images: Belmont's First Halloween Window Painting Contest Set for Oct. 26

Kids in 2nd to 8th grades can register by next Friday, Oct. 18 at A Chocolate Dream on Leonard Street.

Leonard Street businesses are preparing to have their windows transformed into pumpkin patches, witch covens and scenes of specters and ghouls as the inaugural Belmont Center Halloween Window Painting Contest, sponsored by the Belmont Center Business Association, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A popular event in surrounding communities – Newton will be celebrating its 14th annual contest this year – the contest is open to elementary and middle school children in second to eighth grades who will paint a 20-inch by 36-inch space on a merchant's window. Prizes will be awarded for each grade.

Parents can register and obtain the rules for their children at A Chocolate Dream located at 68 Leonard St., or call 617-484-4119 for more information.

The fee is $10 per child for each window if they register before 6 p.m. next Friday, Oct. 18. After the deadline, the fee increases to $15 per child/window. The fee can be paid in cash or with a check made out to the BCBA.

The proceeds will be going to the Foundation for Belmont Education.
