Basketball Group Holding Clothes Drive Saturday to Help Sandy Victims

Donations will be heading to Hoboken, NJ to help restore its recreation department, sports.

The Marauder Basketball Association is holding a supply drive to support families affected by Hurricane Sandy today, Saturday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wenner Field House at Belmont High School.

The drive will support the Hoboken, NJ Public Schools athletics, the Hoboken Recreation Department, and hoboken.recovers.org.

Hoboken was selected because it is home of former Belmont High School Basketball captains Kevin Lapierre (a member of the 1993 state championship team whose father was a Belmont Youth Basketball Association founding coordinator and a volunteer for more than 15 years) and Fernando Costa (a 2002 All-League player).

The extent of the destruction that fell upon Hoboken can be seen in the damage to the Hoboken Boys & Girls Club and in many stories on the Hoboken Patch website.

Extra donations outside of Hoboken needs will be given to the people at Horizons for Homeless Children, a Massachusetts non profit organization.

The group will be accepting any monetary donations at the door to assist will transportation costs including the rental of a UHaul truck and gas. Anyone interested in a larger individual/corporate donation, please email Adam Pritchard, BHS Varsity Boys' Basketball coach, at coachpritch@gmail.com.

Please consider joining this effort by donating to this great cause. Players coming to the Basketball Clinics can drop off items on the way into the gym.
