Belmont Blizzard? Heavy Snow Starting By Late Afternoon, Lasting into Wednesday

Up to 10 inches of snow, gusty winds and bitter cold.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warming for heavy snow and blizzard-like conditions that runs from 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 through 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.

The service is estimating snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches of snow, the heaviest coming late Tuesday and into the morning Wednesday when wind gusts will reach up to 40 mph.

Belmont's snow emergency hotline is 617-993-2698.

In addition to the heavy snow and winds, temperatures are plummeting to the teens Tuesday and into the single digits at the night and into Wednesday. This will result in snow piling up rather quickly making travel difficult tonight and during Wednesday's morning rush.

A winter storm warning is issued when an average of 6 or more inches of snow is expected in a 12 hour period. Travel will be slow at best on well-treated road surfaces and quite difficult on any unplowed or untreated surfaces.
