Final Month of Belmont's Farmer Market Begins With Tasting from El Centro Tres

Late season produce and fruit in abundance.

It's October at the Belmont Farmers Market with only five market days remaining with the final opportunity to shop on Halloween, Oct. 31. 

Despite the growing season drawing to an end, shoppers will continue to find the market filled with an A to Z of produce and fruit including apples, artichokes, beets, bell and hot peppers, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, grapes, green and shelling beans, herbs, kale, kohlrabi, melons, okra, onions, peaches, pears, plums, potatoes, pumpkins, raspberries, winter squash, tomatillos, tomatoes and zucchini.

Occasional vendors Still River Winery, Wild Acre Inns, Sfolia Baking Company, and Soluna Garden Farm join the weekly market folks: C & C Lobsters and Fish, Foxboro Cheese, Mamadou’s Artisan Bakery, Dick's Market Garden, Fior d'Italia, Stillman's at the Turkey Farm, Goodies Homemade, Carlisle Honey, Hutchins Farm, Kimball Fruit Farm, Samira's Homemade, Flat's Mentor Farm, Nicewicz Family Farm, The Farm School, and Belmongo Farm.

Despite not even being open for business, at 2 p.m., El Centro Tres, the Mexican restaurant slated to open this fall in Belmont Center in the former Frameworks space on Leonard Street, will offer tastings. Chosen as Best of Boston 2013, El Centro has restaurants in Brookline and the South End.

Story time

At 3:15 p.m., preschoolers are welcome to hear stories about farms and food and just about everything else. 

Music

At 4 p.m., the Eight Thumbs Sax Quartet will be in the events tent. 

SNAP Benefits and Belmont Food Pantry

The Market accepts and doubles SNAP benefits up to $25, so please spread the word so that more can take advantage of fresh food. Also, bring nonperishables to the Farmers' Market tent to benefit the Belmont Food Pantry.
