Fruits, Vegetables and Mozart at Belmont's Farmers Market

Nonstop music this week at the award-winning market in Belmont Center.

What's growing In July at the Belmont Farmers Market? Look for arugula, beets, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, green beans, salad greens, onions, peas (snap and green), peppers, potatoes, radishes, raspberries, scallions, spinach, summer squash, and zucchini. Peaches, tomatoes, and corn are in the stalls also.

This week's occasional vendors include Coastal Vineyards, Wild Acre Inns (plants and produce), Sfolia Baking Company (Italian cookies and crackers), Soluna Garden Farm (tea and spices) and Quinn Popcorn (popcorn varieties).

The market – located at Cross Street and Channing Road in the Belmont Center municipal parking lot – is open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 pm Thursdays, rain or shine, until the final week in October.

Market Music:

• At 2 p.m., Bridget Curzi, who grew up in Belmont, has been the lead singer in her family's band, Positive Energy, since she was 12. She is a certified Music Together teacher and marketing manager at Groovy Baby Music, as well as a Science Ambassador at Autism Speaks.

• Powers Music School cello and violin students perform after Storytime, until 5:30 pm

• From 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., The Mystic String Quartet will play Mozart string quartet No. 11 K. 155, and the second movement of Schubert's Rosamunde quartet, followed by some arrangements of light classical pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn, and Haydn. Karen Allendoerfer and Marianne Brown violins; Benjamin Miller, viola, and Sandy Reismann, cello. This will be their fourth year performing at the Belmont Farmers' Market.

Kids' Storytime  

All preschoolers welcome to readings about farms and food beginning at 3:15 p.m.

The Market accepts and doubles SNAP benefits up to $25, so please spread the word so that more can take advantage of fresh food.

Also, bring nonperishables to the Farmers' Market tent to benefit the Belmont Food Pantry.
