Hula Hoops at the Library, Benton's Book Group and 'It's Just a Jump to the Left'

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

1. Discover all the amazing things you can do with a hula hoop with the Boston Hoop Troop, for the past decade New England's premier hooping collective, at 2 p.m. in the Belmont Public Library's Assembly Room. Watch what they do here. You know, hula hoops are not just for kids.

2. At 4 p.m., the Benton Library Book Group will discuss E. M. Forster’s “The Machine Stops,” a short story from the collection, "The Eternal Moment and Other Stories." Newcomers are welcome even if they have not read the story. The Book Group meets on the second Wednesday in August and September. The library, Belmont's independent, volunteer-run library, is at 75 Oakley Rd. at the corner of Old Middlesex.

3. Heads up: The Beech Street Center will hold a pair of monthly services on Thursday, Aug. 15 that participants must signed up for in advance:

4. Insituform Technologies will be relining sewers and drains on Brighton Street and Greybirch Park.

5. On this day in 1975, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," the longest-running release in film history, opens at the USA Theatre in Westwood, Calif. "Let's Do the Time Warp Again!"
