Late Summer Produce Ups Selection at Belmont Farmers Market

Belmont's own Bridget Curzi will be singing in the Event Tent at 4 p.m.

The late summer harvest has arrived to the Belmont Farmers Market this week so it is prime time to start canning and freezing ripe and ready local produce to get you through the long New England winter.

Today, shoppers will find apples, beets, bell peppers, blueberries, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, grapes, green beans, herbs, hot peppers, melons, okra, onions, peaches, plums, potatoes, raspberries, shelling beans, summer squash, tomatillos, tomatoes and zucchini. 

Along with the regular merchants, his week's occasional vendors are Coastal Vineyards, Wild Acre Inns, Sfolia Baking Company, Soluna Garden Farm and Quinn Popcorn.

The market is open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the municipal parking lot behind the stores in Belmont Center at Cross Street and Channing Road.

At 2 p.m. Chef and Owner Tom Cutrone of Savinos Grill will be offering fresh summer tastings. Located in Cushing Square, Savinos cuisine features creative seasonal pairings of fresh, local and imported foods. The contemporary menu highlights the foods of Italy and the surrounding Mediterranean regions. Savinos Grill will be participating in Boston Restaurant week which runs until Aug. 31. In the Events Tent

At 3:15 p.m., Storytime in the Events Tent: Stories about farms and food for preschoolers thanks to the Belmont Public Library.

At 4 p.m., Bridget Curzi, who grew up in Belmont, has been the lead singer in her family's band, Positive Energy, since she was 12. She is a certified Music Together teacher and marketing manager at Groovy Baby Music, as well as a Science Ambassador at Autism Speaks.   

SNAP Benefits and Belmont Food Pantry

The Market accepts and doubles SNAP benefits up to $25, so please spread the word so that more can take advantage of fresh food.
