But this friending doesn't require going on Facebook and selecting a "thumbs up" icon. It's about joining the Friends of the Belmont Public Library during its annual .
membership season that begins this fall.
And if you happen to be a library-supporter who has a dog that needs walking, you are in luck.
"Belmont is a community of life-long learners and readers. We rely on our donors, to help keep the 'public' in our own Belmont Public Library and support its mission to enrich and inform the community," said Mary Alice Wistman, Friends of the Belmont Public Library president.
Membership donations, as well as revenue from the annual and everyday Book Sale, provide for discount passes to local museums, the young adult and children’s programs, author and music series, the Community Read as well as other important gifts to the library.
"The Friends support the library as both a physical and virtual place of access that gives the user an opportunity for exposure to varied opinions and experiences. Libraries provide trusted means to gain context, to expand viewpoints and encourage curiosity," said Wistman.
Also, the Friends have received a generous offer from Ted Tiller of Above and Beyond Pet Services. If you are a member of the Friends of the Belmont Public Library or become a member during the month of September and sign up using his for dog-walking services; he will give that person 25 percent off the first week's service, and that amount would be donated to the Friends.
Ted Tiller can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can join, donate or renewing memberships by visiting the Friends' website at www.friendsofbelmontpubliclibrary.com and donate using an online form or through PayPal.
The Friends also relies on a strong group of volunteers to fulfill their mission. Those interested can attend on of the Friend's monthly meetings (beginning Sept. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Assembly Room of the Library) or email the Friends at email@example.com, to find out how you can help.
