Farmers Market Help Wanted: People Who Preserve To Teach the Rest of Us How

The market closes at 6 p.m.

It's the peak of the harvest at the Belmont Farmers Market, with the sweetest corn and tomatoes, apples, and beans with winter squash coming soon.

But many shoppers are wondering: how can I preserve all this bounty for the coming winter and spring?

The Belmont Food Collaborative, the umbrella organization of the Belmont Farmers Market, is looking for people interested in teaching small classes in food preparation, preservation or anything else local-food related. Please e-mail the Farmers Market if you'd like to find out more about the opportunity.

2 pm: Nick Zaino, a Boston-based singer/songwriter, has a deep appreciation for the roots of American music. Inspired by artists like The Band, The Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo, Elvis Costello and Alejandro Escovedo, Zaino's music has an elemental feel. If you can't wait until the Market, you can listen to Zaino's acoustic EP Here's A Moon.

3:15 pm: Kids' Storytime. Denise Shaver from the Belmont Public Library will read to preschoolers about farms and food.

4 pm: Bob Leger returns for a second performance this year, in his third season at the Market. A guitarist and singer, Bob has played bass and toured with many rock and country bands.

SNAP Benefits and Belmont Food Pantry

The Market accepts and doubles SNAP benefits up to $25, so please spread the word so that more can take advantage of fresh food.

Also, bring nonperishables to the Farmers' Market tent to benefit the Belmont Food Pantry.
