Oldies Concert, Art Exhibit Kicks Off One Book One Belmont

Art, music that complements this year's selection, Belmont's Tom Perrotta's "The Leftovers."

One Book One Belmont kicks off today with the first of two events that compliment this year's selection, Belmont resident Tom Perrotta's "The Leftovers."

An opening reception will be held today, Friday, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m for "Anatomy of Melancholy," an exhibit presented by the Belmont Gallery of Art, located on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex. The show presents haunting landscapes and seascapes by artist Lee Strasburger that complement the mood of "The Leftovers."

Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.  An opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 in the Town Hall's auditorium, The Apocalypso Players, led by Roger Brown, president of Berklee College of Music, will perform songs mentioned in Perrotta's novel.

Songs include "Burning Down the House," "Little Red Corvette," "Love Shack," and more - and don't be surprised if there is a song or two about the end of the world.

One Book One Belmont ending on Tuesday, Oct. 23, with a 7:30 p.m. talk by Perrotta at the Beech Street Center.
